Guru Nanak Public School (GNPS) named after the First Guru of Sikhs, Shri Guru Nanak Dev Ji, is committed to his preaching of “God is one & service to the Humanity is Service to God”. Shri Guru Nanak Dev Ji , born in 1469 at Rai Bhoi Ki Talwandi (now in Pakistan), was a great Philosopher and a religious guide.
   BACKGROUND  
With an objective to serve humanity at large through removal of ignorance and to provide value added quality education, it was decided by Gurudwara Shri Guru Singh Sabha (SGSS), Rourkela to start a new educational institute way back in 2000.
SGSS, by this time had already gathered rich experience of managing two existing schools :
 
Guru Nanak Khalsa High School (Hindi medium ), affiliated to Board of Secondary Education, Orissa
Guru Nanak Public School (English Medium ), Gandhi Road, affiliated to ICSE
With a vision to have a model and top class educational institute with every thing top of the line, SGSS started working on this new dream project. Leading educationalists nationwide were consulted and guidelines were prepared. Top class architects were hired, designs were prepared the construction of school building started on a 2.5 acres plot at Nayabazar, Rourkela.
Funds started pouring in from the community and SGSS. Aid came in from the Government also. Shri Dilip Ray, M.P. contributed Rs.5 lacs through M.P. LAD Fund in year the 2000 and later in the year 2002. Another Rs. 5 lacs came from Shri Jual Oram, the then Union Minister, Minister for Tribal Affairs, through M.P. LAD Fund.
   ADMINISTRATION  
GNPS, under the umbrella of its parent body, SGSS, is managed by Guru Nanak Public School Society, registered with Govt. of Orissa under the Society Act in 2006. It has its registered office at Naya Bazar. The Management Committee, comprising of highly qualified and experienced professionals and eminent citizens of Rourkela is fully geared to take this school to great heights both in quality education and infrastructure.
This is possible of course with the help of top class professional teaching staff. Maintaining high standards of the teaching faculty is being given utmost importance. A ratio of one and a half teacher for every 35 children, is being maintained. Experienced and qualified principal and teaching staff have been appointed.

   FUTURE PLANS  

During the session 2006-07 the school started with Class I to Class V. The same shall gradually be extended first up to Class X and finally, senior secondary classes of XI and XII shall be opened. Gurunanak Public School intends to move towards obtaining ISO 9000 CERTIFICATION.

Presently (2010-11) the school runs with classes from Nursery to Std. IX.
